Can Your Spouse Affect Your Credit Score?

Whether your spouse's conduct can adversely affect your credit score, is a question facing many marriages.
Imagine your husband failing to repay a mortgage loan installment on time. If the loan is under joint names, both husband and wife will suffer (negative) consequences. Because trying to explain to the lender, that you marriage is undergoing some periodic problems, is unlikely to succeed.

Of course, if you advise the bank in advance, that the dissolution of your marriage is inevitable, you can count on their understanding, providing you'll present to them the way that will remove all financial risks that the lender can suffer. I know, it's rather difficult thing to do, when you don't know what the next day of your marriage will bring, and money are often the subject of big arguments between the partners.

The dangers of not setting the record straight with your lender(s) can hardly be overestimated. You need to deal with it straight away. Best solution is to ask your spouse to give you the repayment book, or account details, so that you can make sure that the money are deposited in a timely manner.
In any event, don't pretend you don't know. Bank will send you a warning letter, after which you must act immediately. If not, the credit bureau will adjust your credit records as required.
