There are apparently credit cards offered to people with bad credit score. Although everybody is talking about them, I actually haven't seen any invitation landing in my mail box. Perhaps they all know my points are just above 550.
Seriously though, my friend suggested that I try one of those in-store cards. Apparently they have somewhat relaxed rules of approval, in return for you accepting a higher interest rate. My idea is to apply for the Target store card, and iff approved, try another one. After a while, say 9-12 months, I'd hopefully improve my credit score, and was able to apply successfully for a bank issued credit card.
Yes, I know... it takes time. But, there really is no other option. Especially, if you consider that each rejected application will reduce your score even more. My motto is: if you're applying, make sure that you'll be approved.
